Working side-by-side with physicians, nurses and technicians, Medical Assistants enjoy a career that is both challenging and rewarding. Not many people look forward to going to the doctor. However, as a Medical Assistant, you can make a difference. As an indispensable part of the medical team, you will have the opportunity to set the tone for the entire visit.
Patient care responsibilities require Medical Assistants to take medical histories, record vital signs, explain treatment procedures to patients, and aid the physician during the examination.
It’s not unusual for the Medical Assistant to spend more time with the patient than the doctor during a standard visit – which is why this position requires a person that enjoys helping and caring for others.
Our program prepares graduates to perform administrative and clinical duties within physician and hospital offices, managed care organizations, home care agencies, rehabilitation centers and insurance companies.
Some of the “front office” duties of Medical Assistants include updating and filing medical records, scheduling appointments, greeting patients and insurance processing and coding.
As a graduate of our program, you will also be trained to collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests, sterilize medical instruments, administer injections, prepare patients for X-Rays, and conduct electrocardiograms (EKG’s)
Medical Assistant graduates will be prepared to work in the administrative and clinical areas of health care facilities. Basic skills involve professional ethics, human relations, and clerical skills needed to assist the physician.
Graduates of the Medical Assistant program may choose from a variety of employment settings including hospital and physician offices, managed care organizations, home care agencies, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, and insurance companies. Graduates are eligible to take a national examination to become Registered Medical Assistants through the American Medical Technologists Association.
