Medical Administrative Specialists serve as the foundation for the medical financial team, crucial to the functioning of health care facilities, performing administrative duties – medical billing, patient accounts / statements, insurance claims processing / examining – working directly with patients, physicians, and other health care personnel.

Students are prepared to understand basic bookkeeping, accounts receivable / payable, CPT coding, ICD-9-CM, Diagnostic Related Groups, Workers Compensation, Managed Care Systems, Medicare, Medicaid, other government / private insurance procedures, as well as tracing delinquent claims and insurance problem solving, with special emphasis on data entry and computer skills.
