As health care professionals, Pharmacy Technicians have varying responsibilities. Some of those include, but are not limited to, preparing and filling prescriptions under the direction of a pharmacist, issuing medicine, labeling/storing supplies, and preparing IV solutions. With more and more Pharmacists doing patient counseling and working directly with physicians, they are relying on the Technicians to manage the daily activities of the pharmacy.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, employment of Pharmacy Technicians is expected to “grow faster than average” for all occupations over the next 10 years. Additionally the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) reports that about 60% of technicians that pass the national examination will receive higher pay rates.
